Hyderabad: The police and citizens need to join hands to curb the drug menace, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said here on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a meeting with Excise officials, Mayors, Municipal Chairpersons, corporators and people’s representatives from the Rachakonda area. Urging them to join the mission of eradicating drug abuse from their localities and to declare them as drug free areas, Bhagwat said the Rachakonda Police were taking up all initiatives to eradicate consumption of all forms of recreational drugs from society and had already arrested many persons in drug related cases during recent special drives.

The Commissioner also said the police were treating people inclined towards drug consumption as victims and providing them with required medical treatment.

“Drug consumers will be treated as victims but any person who involves in the drug illegal transportation or making people addicted to drugs will be considered as criminals and will have to face legal consequences,” Bhagwat said, also asking citizens to install surveillance cameras at their houses and residential colonies.
