Though CCTV visuals show the farmer consuming the pesticide inside the bank, the police claimed that Devrao consumed the pesticide outside. They said that their investigations revealed that he neither spoke to officials of the bank, nor did they pick up an argument with him on the premises of the bank. They noted that the investigations found that his wife was suffering from a kidney-related ailment.

However, a full-pledged probe was being carried out as to why the farmer ended his life. Action would be initiated against those who were responsible for his death based on the findings of the investigations, the statement read.

Devrao (60) died by suicide in the ICICI bank branch here on Saturday. He is survived by his wife and son, Akash. His community members staged a rasta-roko in front of the bank demanding justice. Police intervened and assured them justice. Based on a complaint received from Akash, a case was registered.
