Police seize 525 kg ganja worth up to Rs 3 crore in Kothagudem
Police seized around 525 kg of ganja concealed in a secret compartment of a container truck at Sarapaka in Kothagudem district. The consignment, allegedly sourced from Odisha and bound for Uttar Pradesh, is estimated to be worth up to Rs 3 crore
Kothagudem: In a joint operation by the Khammam Regional Narcotics Control Cell and Kothagudem police, ganja weighing around 525 kg was seized at Sarapaka in Burgampad mandal of the district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the seized ganja was estimated to be worth Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore. The police seized the contraband following a tip-off about the movement of the consignment and intercepted a container truck at Sarapaka.
The contraband was concealed in a specially constructed secret compartment inside the truck container. The ganja was procured in Odisha and was being transported to Uttar Pradesh.
Police reportedly took four persons, including a minor, into custody, while a few others were absconding. Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju and other senior officials visited the spot and took stock of the situation. The police were yet to make an official statement on the seizure of the ganja.
