Jagtial: Police displayed overenthusiasm by stalling a funeral procession to ensure the smooth conduct of a meeting addressed by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy in Korutla town on Saturday.

As part of the municipal election campaign, the Irrigation Minister canvassed support for party candidates in various wards of Korutla town and addressed a gathering at the Kalvagadda vegetable market.

At the same time, the funeral procession of one Sheshikala from Rajakavada was passing through the area. However, police stopped the procession midway. Though local leaders brought the issue to the notice of the police, there was no immediate response.

This led to an argument between the police and the family members and relatives of the deceased. On learning about the incident, media personnel rushed to the spot. Following media attention, police allowed the procession to proceed after informing higher officials.
