Hyderabad: Police in the city’s IT hub are going green with electric scooters for patrolling. The switch, from the conventional motorbikes used for patrolling to electric scooters that are environment-friendly and also light on the pocket, came after the city-based multimodal ride-sharing platform Hala came forward and donated a few Miso model mini-electric scooters to the police.
The Madhapur and Gachibowli police stations now have these e-scooters, which are being marketed under the slogan ‘Go green, go electric’ by Hala. While women police personnel, including She Teams from the Gachibowli station, are using the green coloured scooters for their commutes, the Madhapur police are zooming around on the scooters to enforce the lockdown, including in the iconic Cyber Towers area. The cops are using them for daily patrol rounds as well.
“I am using it along with two Sub Inspectors including a woman SI for patrolling. The bike runs on battery and it is a bit of a different experience for us,” says P Ravindra Prasad, SHO (Madhapur). The bikes run on battery, with one full charge, which takes three hours, enabling travel for 30 km. “It weighs around 100 km. Women personnel are finding it very comfortable to move around,” Prasad adds.
