Politician gets life term for shooting man to death following dispute over playing cricket in Adilabad
The Special fast track court judge Dr T Srinivas Rao found Farooq Ahmed guilty for killing Syed Zameer and injuring Mannan and Mothesham on December 18, 2020.
The accused Faruq Ahmed is being brought to the court in Adilabad.
Adilabad: A politician who opened fire killing a person and injuring two others following a dispute over playing cricket, was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment by the Adilabad court here on Monday.
The Special fast track court judge Dr T Srinivas Rao found Farooq Ahmed guilty for killing Syed Zameer and injuring Mannan and Mothesham on December 18, 2020.
Farooq Ahmed as the vice-chairman of Adilabad municipality and former district president of All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). He had since been suspended from the AIMIM; had on December 18, 2020 fired shots with a revolver following an argument over playing of cricket in Thatiguda locality of Adilabad town. Three were injured in the firing and Syed Zameer (62) died while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Hyderabad on December 26.
The convicted persons was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 12,000 by the judge.
The fast track court had examined 24 witnesses and other evidences produced before the court by the prosecution conducted by public prosecutor M Ramana Reddy. The district SP D Uday Kumar Reddy appreciated the investigation by the local police. The license of the revolver used by the convicted politician was also not renewed after its validity expired.
