Hyderabad: The Congress, particularly Ponnam Prabhakar, on Tuesday continued to target BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha, accusing her of using emotions to influence voters in the Jubilee Hills by-election, even as his earlier remarks questioning her tears had drawn sharp criticism.
The Transport Minister, who had earlier faced backlash for calling Sunitha’s tears ‘fake’, once again criticised the BRS, claiming the party was playing the sympathy card out of fear of defeat.
“The BRS candidate’s statement seeking sympathy votes is condemnable and a violation of the Model Code of Conduct,” said Prabhakar, also alleging that the BRS was trying to divert public attention by portraying its candidate as a victim.
“We appeal to the Election Commission to take stern action against non-local leaders, regardless of their party affiliation, who are moving around in the constituency,” he said.
He also claimed that all Congress leaders had left the constituency after campaigning ended at 5 pm on Sunday.
