Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurates 60 new electric buses in Hyderabad

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated 60 new electric buses at the TGSRTC Kukatpally depot, stating that the expansion of electric public transport would help reduce pollution. He also announced upcoming RTC union elections and assured welfare measures for RTC employees.

Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday inaugurated 60 new electric buses at the TGSRTC Kukatpally depot as part of the Green Challenge initiative.

The buses were flagged off in the presence of MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao, TGSRTC Managing Director Y Nagi Reddy and Medchal district collector Manu Choudhary.


Speaking at the launch event, Ponnam Prabhakar said the government was expanding electric public transport to control pollution and ensure Hyderabad does not turn into another Delhi in terms of air quality.

He stated that around 540 electric buses are currently operating in Hyderabad, while nearly 1,000 electric buses are being run across Telangana.

The minister further also announced that recognition elections for RTC workers’ unions would be conducted soon and said the process of RTC merger discussions would begin with the elected unions.

He also assured implementation of PRC for RTC employees and said the government was committed to the welfare of transport workers.

Officials would interact with employees every second Tuesday to address their grievances and workplace issues, he added.
