Hyderabad: Doctors at Gleneagles Global Hospital, Lakdikapul on Tuesday said that they have treated a patient K Gopal who was suffering from a unique post-Covid complication due to obstruction of his airways.
A resident of Keesara, the patient was getting a wheezing sound while breathing, especially while asleep. The medical condition occurs when airways in the human body get tightened, blocked, or inflamed, making a person’s breathing sound like whistling or squeaking. This condition is generally caused due to cold, asthma, allergies, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, doctors said.
A few months ago, he was admitted to the hospital with Covid-19 infection and was under care for six days. Three months after getting discharged, he started developing wheezing while sleeping.
“After recovering from Covid-19, he developed obstruction in his airways that caused a wheezing sound each time he took a breath. Investigations revealed he had tracheal stenosis, which required dilatation of the trachea. Stenting was done in the region of the blockage. He was discharged the next day of the treatment and is now leading a normal life,” said Dr. Tapaswi Krishna, Pulmonologist, Gleneagles Global Hospital.
