Hyderabad: The touching story of A Rajni, a postgraduate in Organic Chemistry who had to work as a sweeper for GHMC under a contract, now has one more touching chapter, thanks to Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MAUD) Minister KT Rama Rao.
The Minister, who came to know that Rajni, despite being an M.Sc degree holder in Organic Chemistry was still forced by circumstances to work as a sweeper, offered her a job as an assistant entomologist in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The mother of two daughters, who was a daily wage worker, was then hired on outsourcing basis by the civic body with the joining order too being issued on Monday.
Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar tweeted that orders were issued after verifying Rajni’s credentials.
“On hearing the plight of Rajni, who’s MSc (organic Chemistry), has 2 daughter & working as sweeper on daily wages, minister @KTRTRS met her today & offered to employ her as Assistant Entomologist on O/S basis in @GHMCOnline Orders have been issued after verifying her credentials,” Arvind Kumar tweeted.
GHMC commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar also instructed the Entomology department to ensure that the Employees Provident Fund and Employee State Insurance accounts are opened for Rajni, who has been allotted to work at the office of the Chief Entomologist, Urban Malaria Scheme (UMS), GHMC.
The Minister also tweeted, saying that it was the best moment of his hectic day, and wished Rajni all the best in her new role.
