Khammam: The leaders of Progressive Organisation of Women (POW) and Progressive Youth League (PYL) have demanded the State government to fill vacant posts in government hospitals in Khammam and Kothagudem districts.
The POW former state secretary Chandra Aruna, its state secretary Ch Shiromani and the PYL district NV Rakesh met Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy here on Saturday and submitted a memorandum in support of the demand.
They wanted immediate steps to strengthen government hospitals, to fill the vacant posts of nurses, dental, neurosurgeon, nephrology, radiologist, heart and other specialists, besides improving facilities and sanitation conditions in the hospitals.
The leaders asked the minister to take measures to stop the exploitation of high fees in corporate and private hospitals, to control the excessive fees charged in those hospitals. Strict action should be taken to stop the practice of transferring patients from government hospitals to private hospitals and to display the price list of tests on boards.
Two gynecologist posts, four head nurse posts and four of nephrologist posts were vacant in Mata Shishu Kendram at the Government General Hospital in Khammam district headquarters. One dentist post, neurosurgeon post and technician post were also vacant in the hospital, they said.
Urinals should be constructed outside the premises, urinals should be constructed in every ward, the x-ray machine not working properly and steps should be taken to repair it. All kinds of medicines should be made available in the government hospitals of the district, the POW and PYL leaders demanded.
They also wanted the medical facilities in the primary and area hospital improved. Steps have to be taken to stop collecting excess fees in private corporate hospitals. The medical mafia should be controlled from performing unnecessary operations and private diagnostic centres should be put under strict monitoring.
POW leaders K Kalpana, T Jhansi, Avula Mangathai, P Shobha, PYL leaders Jatoth Prem Singh, D Chand, Deva, Mamidala Venkatesh, Shivalal and others were present.
