Hyderabad: With power demand increasing significantly in Greater Hyderabad and surrounding districts, Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL) is expecting the electricity demand to grow by about 20 – 25% during next summer.

According to TGSPDCL Chairman & Managing Director Musharraf Ali Faruqui the peak demand, which was 3756 MW last year, touched 4352 MW this year with a growth of about 16 percent, while the consumption, which was 81.39 million units last year, reached 90.68 million units with a growth of about 12 percent. “Going by the current power demand it is estimated that the electricity demand will grow at a record high of about 20 – 25% in the ensuing summer,”he said.

Musharraf, who held a review meeting along with TRANSCO Director Jagath Reddy and other engineers on Thursday, directed the officers to improve the distribution and transmission system to cope with the high power demand in the ensuing summer season.

Asking the officials to complete the ongoing maintenance and repair works within the stipulated time, he directed them to be very vigilant in the matter of Line Clearance (LC) being taken for maintenance works. They should coordinate with Transco & DISCOM engineers while taking LCs, he said.
