Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Malla Reddy Hospital in Suraram on Friday when members of the National Students’ Union India (NSUI), staged a protest. Nearly 25 protestors, demanding free treatment for Covid patients, barged into the hospital and pelted stones and damaged the window panes.
The Dundigal police reached the spot and took the protestors into custody. A case has been booked. In a press release, Malla Reddy Hospital said the group of men dressed in PPE Kits and pretending to be Covid patients and their attenders, entered the Covid block where emergency services were being provided.
The group started attacking doctors and staff and caused significant damage to the infrastructure, the hospital said. At the time of the attack, there were 100 patients in the ICU. “It is very unfortunate to witness such a ruthless attack on the people who are working day in and day out to save lives during the pandemic,” the press release said adding that the hospital is treating 500 Covid patients on daily basis through OPD.
