Hyderabad: With five days left for Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) elections, the election heat peaked with both the contesting panels — Manchu Vishnu and Prakash Raj— getting into last minute speches to influence 900 odd member electorate.
Prakash Raj on Tuesday filed a complaint with the MAA election officer alleging that Manchu Vishnu panel had violated the election code. He said Vishnu and his panel is influencing the postal ballot. Prakash held a press conference along with his panel members Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Srikanth.
“Artistes above 60 years are eligible for postal ballot voting. Vishnu is trying to influence voters by securing signatures from eligible artistes. A person paid the MAA membership fees of Rs 28,000 towards association on behalf of 56 members,” said Prakash Raj.
According to the postal ballot procedure, aged members who are unable to vote physically due to ill health are entitled to apply for postal ballot. Such members shall make application on plain paper to the election officer either through a speed post or courier or agent between September 25 and 30th. Applications received after September 30th will not be entertained.
Prakash Raj said application fees on behalf of yesteryear actors like Krishna, Sharada, Krishnam Raju, Parachuri brothers Sharath Babu was paid towards MAA association by an agent belonging to Manchu Vishnu.
Prakash Raj further questioned as to why the Vishnu’s panel is resorting such gimmicks and election tricks to win the polls in the last minutes. He sought to know why the opposition panel is stooping to such level to influence the voters. “Can’t you win the elections in a free and fair manner. Can’t you win with your poll agenda and promises,” he questioned.
