Hyderabad: The Sikh community in the city is gearing up to celebrate ‘Prakash Utsav’ that marks the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikh religion, Guru Nanak Dev, from November 16 to 19.
On the occasion, grand colourful holy processions will be taken out by Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad on Tuesday. On the day of ’Prakash Utsav’ celebrations which fall on Friday, a Vishaal Deewan (mass congregation) will be held at Classic Gardens, Balamrai, Secunderabad from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm.
GSS Prabhandak Committee, President, S Baldev Singh Bagga said that a colourful ‘Nagar Keertan’ will be taken out on Tuesday at 3.30 pm from Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad and proceed via Manohar talkies, Clock Tower, BATA, Patny Circle, Kingsway, Monda Market, Alpha Hotel and reach Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad in the evening. Thousands of devotees from across the State are expected to take part in the procession. Guru Granth Sahebji (the Revered Holy Scripture of the Sikhs) will be carried on a beautifully decorated vehicle along with Nishaan Sahebans’ (Religious Flags) during the procession.
The procession will be marked by rendering of Shabad Keertans (Holy Hymns) by the Jatha Tera Jatha, Istri Satsang and Keerthani Jathas of men and women. Besides that Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones) in their traditional attire will also be part of the procession.
A major attraction of the procession will be the display of Gatka, the famous martial art form and other breathtaking sword exercises. A Night Keertan Darbar will be organized on Thursday at Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad from 7.30 pm to 11 pm.
