Pregnant woman dies by suicide over dowry harassment in Telangana’s Karimnagar
In Karimnagar, 20-year-old Malleboina Mounika, seven months pregnant, died by suicide allegedly due to harassment for additional dowry by her husband and in-laws. The family has filed a complaint, and police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Karimnagar: Unable to bear alleged harassment by her in-laws for additional dowry, a seven-month pregnant woman, Malleboina Mounika, 20, died by suicide at Sriramulapalli in Ellandakunta mandal on Monday.
She is said to have hanged herself from the ceiling when her family members were away. She was seven months pregnant at the time of the incident.
According to police, Mounika married Malleboina Prashanth of Budaram in Ghanapur mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on December 22, 2024. At the time of marriage, Prashanth was given two guntas of house-site land, Rs.8 lakh in cash and two tolas of gold, among other items, towards dowry.
Prashanth and his parents, Sampath and Narasamma, allegedly harassed Mounika for additional dowry in the form of a motorcycle. Unable to endure the alleged mental and physical harassment, she left for her parental home a week ago and died by suicide on Monday.
Family members lodged a complaint against Prashanth, his father Sampath and mother Narsamma with the Ellandakunta police.
Based on a complaint from Mounika’s mother, Uma, police registered a case and began investigation, SI Kranthi Kumar said.
Two booked for posting derogatory messages on WhatsApp group in Adilabad
Adilabad: Two persons were booked for allegedly posting derogatory messages in WhatsApp groups, provoking communal tensions in Boath on Monday.
Police said a case was registered against Boddu Srinivas and Palik Ramesh, members of a WhatsApp group titled Boath Development Forum, under Sections 196, promoting enmity, and 353, circulation of fake statements, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha. According to police, the two had posted messages that sparked communal conflict.
Police warned of stringent action against those, including people living abroad, who spread communal hatred on social media platforms.
Putta Madhu, wife appear before CBI
Peddapalli: Senior BRS leader and former MLA Putta Madhu, along with his wife Shailaja, appeared before the CBI on Monday in connection with the murder of advocate couple Gattu Vamana Rao and Nagamani. The CBI questioned them at the Ramagundam Police Commissionerate office in Godavarikhani.
Madhu said they cooperated with the investigators. He asked why the Manthani Madhukar murder case was still pending before the High Court despite Vamana Rao’s case being moved to the CBI. He alleged that Vamana Rao’s father acted against him with the support of IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, and claimed the Minister was responsible for pushing the case to the CBI.
He also questioned why Madhukar’s case had not been handed over to the CBI, stating that the names mentioned by Madhukar’s mother belonged to Congress leaders. Madhu alleged Sridhar Babu’s involvement and demanded a CBI probe into Madhukar’s murder.
Four get 1 year jail, fined Rs 50,000 in Asifabad
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A court here on Monday sentenced four persons to jail for a year and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each for smuggling banned ganja four years ago.
Asifabad Sessions Court principal judge Ramesh delivered the verdict awarding the term and fine against Lavudya Uddal, Gagloth Bharath, both from Khanapur, and Rathod Savairam and Rathod Vishnu belonging to Jainoor by finding them guilty for transporting the contraband substance by motorbikes in August of 2021.
The four were booked for allegedly smuggling ganja during a vehicle check by Bluecolts. The then Sub-Inspector Thirupathi and Inspector Hanooq took up investigations before filing a charge-sheet before the court establishing the offence of the four.
10-year-old BC hostel girl attempts suicide in Gajwel
Siddipet: A 10-year-old inmate of BC Residential Hostel at Gajwel girls’ education hub attempted suicide by consuming bathroom cleaner on Monday. The girl, Madhupriya, is a Class 6 student at the ZPHS girls’ school located inside the hub.
According to staff, Madhupriya went to the bathroom in the hostel on Monday evening and consumed the cleaner. Fellow inmates noticed her condition and alerted wardens, who immediately shifted her to the government hospital in Siddipet. She is undergoing treatment.
The reason behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
