Prepare action plan for paddy procurement: Karimnagar Collector to officials
In a review meeting at his camp office here on Saturday, Shashanka informed that 5.9 lakh tonnes crop is expected to arrive since paddy was sowed in 2.55 lakh acres in this Yasangi season
Karimnagar: Collector K Shashanka instructed officials to prepare an action plan to procure paddy produced by farmers in Yasangi (Rabi) season.
In a review meeting at his camp office here on Saturday, Shashanka informed that 5.9 lakh tonnes crop is expected to arrive since paddy was sowed in 2.55 lakh acres in this Yasangi season. He expressed confidence that at least 4.2 lakh tonnes of paddy can be purchased this season against 3.6 lakh tonnes procured through 351 paddy procurement centres during last Yasangi season. Besides adequate staff, all basic facilities such as paddy cleaning and weighing machines, tarpaulins, moisture measuring equipment and others, are being arranged for the convenience of farmers.
The Collector instructed the officials to provide tabs to staff of paddy purchase centres and informed that paddy will be procured in all eight market yards as well. He wanted the officials to give receipts to farmers by maintaining due records. An incharge will be deployed for every center to monitor the purchasing process. “Farmers would bring their produce to centres over a span of 40 days in April and May. A majority of the crop would arrive during the 20 days period. Agriculture extension officers should take steps and ensure that all the farmers do not bring their crop at once.
Talking about transportation of crop to rice mills, Shashanka said there are 1,200 lorries in the district and all of them should be used for transportation of paddy on a regular basis. A special officer should also be deployed at every rice mill to monitor the situation. There should not be a shortfall of Hamalis, he said.
Additional Collector GV Shyamprasad Lal, District Agriculture Officer V Sridhar, Marketing DD Padmavathi, DRDO Venkateshwar Rao, Civil Supplies Manager Srikanth, DSO Suresh and others participated in the meeting.
