Hyderabad: The Cabinet sub-committee set up by the State government following identification of Omicron, the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 that was first reported in South Africa, has directed District Collectors to prepare a fool-proof action plan and implement it to achieve 100 per cent Covid vaccination by December.
In the backdrop of the recent reporting of Omicron variant, the Cabinet sub-committee, comprising IT Minister KT Rama Rao, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Health Minister T Harish Rao, directed the District Collectors to focus on encouraging people to get vaccinated and follow Covid appropriate behaviour including usage of masks.
100% vaccination & Covid-appropriate behaviour “Vaccination, masks and following other Covid protocols are the only options available with us to prevent a fresh resurgence of Covid infections due to the new variant. A micro-level action plan must be prepared to achieve 100 per cent vaccination and implement it to the fullest to achieve the target by December,” Harish Rao, who was presiding over the video conference with District Collectors, said.
Command control centre KT Rama Rao said it was time to reactivate the 24X7 command control centre to ensure proper information and guidance is available to public on Omicron and Delta variants. “There is a need to implement vaccine administration drive on mission mode. Clearly defined roles, targets and objectives are needed. In case of a surge of infections, people in districts must be given proper information on the availability of beds through the control centre. Local authorities must keenly follow fake news in social media platforms,” he said.
Sabitha Indra Reddy advised the District Collectors to utilise the premises of government educational institutions in districts for achieving 100 per cent vaccination status. Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, Urban Development, Arvind Kumar, Secretary, Education department, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Health Secretary, SAM Rizvi, Commissioner, Collegiate Education, Navin Mittal and other senior officials were present.
