Hyderabad: June is LGBTQ+ pride month and every year, whenever someone says “pride” or “pride walk” or “pride month”, the first thing that comes to mind is colorful celebrations by the members of the LGBTQ+ community and awareness programs. However, this year, city-based LGBTQ+ NGO Mobbera Foundation is going beyond celebrations and instead, going a step ahead by focussing on skill-development, healthcare and community strengthening.
Owing to the ongoing pandemic scenario, the NGO has been striving to facilitate Covid vaccinations for the members of the community in the city.
“Last week, 100 trans people were vaccinated as a part of a vaccination drive facilitated by Prajwala Foundation and Cyberabad Police. We have been facilitating vaccinations for various people in the LGBTQ+ community of the city. Vyjayanti Vasanta Mogili, a transwoman and activist, has been helping us in this,” says Sandipan of Mobbera foundation.
The foundation is also celebrating the Pride Month with skill development through their initiative – Community Connect. “We planned 26 different online sessions wherein experts in art, sustainability, blogging, makeup, fashion, etc., speak on their professions to enable members of the community in building a career. We even had sessions with HR and social media experts. Our focus is to ensure capacity building among the community members,” says Anil from the foundation.
