Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha strongly criticised the BJP government at the Centre for denying national project status to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS). Calling it as a blatant act of discrimination, she said both the BJP and the Congress have shown zero responsibility to Telangana despite getting eight MP seats each.

In a post on X and subsequent media interaction on Friday, Kavitha pointed out that since the formation of Telangana, the State has faced persistent discrimination from the Centre – from unfair budget allocations and project recognitions to the outright disregard for our culture and festivals. She stated that exclusion of PRLIP is just the latest chapter in a long history of marginalisation.

“Neither the BJP, now in its third consecutive term at the Centre, nor the Congress, which currently holds power in the State, have done anything meaningful to secure Telangana’s rightful share,” she remarked.

Terming this a blatant example of the “8+8 = 0 Model,” the BRS MLC said both parties derived political mileage from Telangana, but delivered nothing to its people. She termed it as a collective failure of the BJP, the Congress and their “8+8 = 0 Model”. She stated that the BJP’s true contribution to Telangana was zero accountability and zero respect.

Kavitha demanded the Congress government in Telangana to stand up and fight for Telangana’s rightful share and ensure that Telangana’s voice echoes powerfully in Delhi, prioritising the aspirations and well-being of its people.

Recalling the proactive efforts of the previous BRS government, she said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao gave over 13 representations to the Union government, pressing for the recognition of PRLIS as a national project. Despite these relentless efforts, the Centre’s discriminatory stance continues unabated, she added.
