Prof. Tushar Jana of UoH elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru

Senior professor Tushar Jana of the University of Hyderabad has been elected a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences for 2026, recognising his sustained contributions to polymer chemistry and materials science, including advanced research on membranes, hydrogen energy and sustainable polymers.

Hyderabad: Prof. Tushar Jana, Senior Professor in the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been elected as a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS), Bengaluru for the year 2026, in recognition of his outstanding and sustained contributions to the fields of polymer chemistry and materials science.

Prof. Jana obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta, and completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata. He carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), USA. He joined the University of Hyderabad in 2005 and has been serving as Professor of Chemistry since 2013.


Prof. Jana’s research focuses on polymer membranes, hydrogen energy, polymeric nanostructures, sustainable polymers and polyurethanes. Over the years, his research group has developed several advanced polymeric materials with applications in fuel cells, water electrolyzers, sensors, drug delivery, protein binding, energetic polymers, coatings, and environmentally benign materials, a press release said.
