JOGULAMBA GADWAL: Tension continues to prevail in Pedda Dhanwada village after police arrested 12 persons, including a few farmers on Thursday, in connection with the attack on the proposed ethanol factory on Wednesday.
The arrested have been remanded and five others have been issued notices, Rajoli Sub-Inspector Jagadeeshwar said in a video statement.
On Wednesday, villagers of Pedda Dhanwada and Chinna Dhanwada had staged protests against the ethanol factory and attacked the unit with petrol, sticks and chilli powder. A few factory staff members were also attacked, he said.
A case has been registered in the Rajoli police station and as part of the case, 12 persons have been arrested and taken into custody. Many others were also involved in the incident and CCTV footage was being examined and action would be initiated against them as per law, the Rajoli SI said. “We appeal to the citizens not to violate rules and take law into their hands,” the SI urged.
Since the last few months, the villagers have been up in arms against the ethanol factory, citing environmental concerns. The villagers are protesting the establishment of the factory stating that it would have an adverse impact on the local environment, especially degradation and threat to agriculture.
