Protest against ethanol factory: 23 farmers booked for vandalizing RDO vehicle
Police said that cases were registered against 23 farmers for causing inconvenience to the public by staging a sit-in on the national highway, vandalizing the vehicle of Nirmal RDO Rathna Kalyani, detaining her and obstructing her duties at the time of the protest
Nirmal: As many as 23 farmers were on Wednesday booked for allegedly causing inconvenience to the public by staging a sit-in on the national highway, vandalizing vehicle of Nirmal RDO Rathna Kalyani, detaining her and obstructing to her duties during a sit-in conducted by villagers against establishment of an ethanol factory on the national highway 61 in Dilawarpur mandal headquarters on Tuesday.
Police said that cases were registered against 23 farmers for causing inconvenience to the public by staging a sit-in on the national highway, vandalizing the vehicle of Nirmal RDO Rathna Kalyani, detaining her and obstructing her duties at the time of the protest.
They stated some more farmers, who took part in the violent protest would be booked after identifying them soon.
The protest turned violent when some agitators reportedly damaged the vehicle of RDO Kalyani who held consultations with the farmers on Tuesday evening.
They prevented her from leaving the spot by stopping her vehicle. They then threw fire on the vehicle. However, police present at the spot extinguished the fire. Kalyani was already shifted to a hospital in Nirmal town when she fainted at 9.30 pm.
