Hyderabad: Traffic slowdowns were witnessed at several places in the city on Thursday in the wake of sit-ins being staged by various political parties on different issues.

At the Telangana State Prohibition and Excise office at Nampally, the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest demanding the government fill up job vacancies and not to announce liquor shop notifications. Scores of party workers sat on the road in front of the building resulting in a traffic slowdown.

A few party workers tried to gatecrash into the building but were prevented by the police, who took the BJP activists into custody and shifted them to the Goshamahal police stadium. The traffic flow was disturbed for around an hour.

A little ahead, the traffic movement was again affected with the Congress party staging a dharna, demanding that the State and Central governments procure paddy produced in Telangana. The State unit of the Congress staged a demonstration from Public Gardens to the Agriculture Commissioner’s office. With a large number of party workers coming on the roads, traffic flow was affected in the afternoon. Additional traffic police personnel were deployed to streamline the traffic.
