Karimnagar: Protests erupted in many areas in the erstwhile Karimangar district in protest against hike in price of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. Except the BJP, leaders of various political parties including women activists registered their protest in different ways. While some of the activists registered their protest by carrying the empty gas cylinders and firewood on their heads, others travelled on rickshaws.
Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar registered his protest by travelling on a bicycle in his constituency. On the other hand, Karimnagar town congress along with women congress activists staged a protest by peddling rickshaws in the town. Congress workers led by town president Komatireddy Narender Reddy peddled rickshaws from Telangana chowk to the Collectorate office. Meanwhile, women workers carried empty gas cylinders and firewood on their heads.
Speaking on the occasion, the legislator Ravishankar came down heavily on the central government for imposing a burden on the common public by frequently increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. The union government, which maintained strategic silence on petroleum prices due to elections to five states, has hiked prices after completion of elections, he alleged and opined that the central government has become a puppet in the hands of oil companies.
