Khammam: Telangana State SC and ST Commission is striving hard to protect the rights of dalits and tribals, asserted its Chairman, Errolla Srinivas.
The Commission has emerged as a role model to SC and ST Commissions in other states. Of the 12, 000 cases pending with the Commission, around 8000 cases have been resolved wherein 55 crore compensation has been paid and it boosted the faith in the Commission, he informed.
Srinivas held a review meeting with officials of Khammam and Kothagudem districts in Khammam on Friday and urged the officials to make committed efforts to address the issues related to the SCs and STs and protect their rights.
He further informed that the Commission embarked on the task of holding ‘Jan Adalath’ which is launched in erstwhile Khammam. It is the first time the SC/ST Commission took up such an initiative to reach out to dalits and tribals.
Telangana SC/ST Commission has the powers of a Civil Court and serves to safeguards the interests of Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) and prevent atrocities against them, he said.
Hence the affected persons have to approach the Commission confidently and get their grievances addressed. With the help of Jan Adalaths justice will be delivered at the door step of the affected persons in a speedy manner.
Jan Adalats will be organised in all Telangana districts in the days to come, he said while asking the officials to address issues related to SC/STs at district level as it may be troublesome for them to reach the Commission in Hyderabad. During Jan Adalath held on Thursday and Friday 500 applications are received and nine resolved.
He suggested the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee review the cases regularly not giving scope to pendency of the cases while asking the police to file FIRs immediately in the cases related to SCs and STs.
Khammam Collector RV Karnan and Kothagudem Collector MV Reddy, Khammam Additional DCP D Muralidhar, Kothagudem SP Sunil Dutt, ITDA PO P Gowtham, DFOs D Praveena and Ranjith Naik attended the meeting.
