Public loots apples after truck overturns in Mahabubabad
An apple-laden truck overturned on the Warangal-Khammam National Highway near Matedu village in Mahabubabad district. Residents and passersby rushed to collect the spilled fruit, while videos of the incident went viral and drew criticism for ignoring the injured driver.
Mahabubabad: Residents of Matedu village in the district and passersby had a field day as they looted a truck laden with apples after it lost control, overturned and fell into a roadside trench.
The incident occurred on the Warangal-Khammam National Highway near the Matedu village stage in Thorrur mandal on Thursday. People who saw the truck fall into the trench, spilling apple boxes onto the ground, scrambled for the fruits, and the entire load was emptied within minutes.
Men, women, elderly persons and children rushed to the spot with sacks and bags, carrying away as much fruit as they could while competing with one another. Commuters also stopped and took their share of the fruit.
Video clips showing the apples being looted by the public were shared on social media and went viral. However, the incident has drawn criticism, as people prioritised taking away the fruit over helping the driver involved in the accident. The condition of the driver was not immediately known.
