Tirupati: A mammoth public meeting attended by intelligentsia and students here on Saturday demanded decentralisation of power and establishment of three capitals in the three different regions for uniform development of Andhra Pradesh.
Thousands attended the meeting organised at the Indira Maidanand presided by the convener of Rayaseema Intellectuals Forum Purushotham Reddy. The speakers–intellectuals and students alike said that they opposed the demand to have a single capital in Amaravati and promised to take the demand for three capitals further. They declared total support to the comprehensive development bill proposed by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
President of Rayalaseema Adhyayana Sanstha, Bhuman, in his address, alleged that the Amaravati slogan was raised by the Telugu Desam Party with vested interests. There was a need for uniform development of Coastal Andhra, North Andhra and Rayalaseema regions which could be made possible with capitals established in all three regions, he pointed out. He also gave the call to prepare for a Maha Padayatra to achieve decentralised development.
Representatives from notonly Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, and Anantapur, but also north Andhra and Amaravati area attended the public meeting.
