Hyderabad: Justice Lalitha Kanneganti of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday affirmed that public prosecutors must assist the court in criminal matters failing which there will be an inordinate delay in resolving issues. A plea was filed by B Mrugender Lal, son of Madan Lal Banoth, former MLA of Wyra constituency in Khammam district seeking anticipatory bail in a sexual assault case.

Mrugender Lal was selected as an IPS officer in 2019 and was subsequently selected as an IAS cadre of Tamil Nadu in 2020. The counsel appearing for the sexual assault victim stated that they have submitted voice recordings of police officials asking the victim to withdraw the complaint. In view of the same, the public prosecutor sought time to seek instructions from the administration’s end. The matter has been adjourned to November 25 for further hearing.

Appearing for the student, Mayur Mundra, counsel for the petitioner, contended that during pandemic schools conducted online examinations and the same should be replicated considering this as a special case. The judge observed that a one-time exemption must given to those infected with Covid-19. Delhi Public School has been directed to make requisite arrangements to conduct online examination.
