Hyderabad: Justice Lalitha Kanneganti of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday affirmed that public prosecutors must assist the court in criminal matters failing which there will be an inordinate delay in resolving issues. A plea was filed by B Mrugender Lal, son of Madan Lal Banoth, former MLA of Wyra constituency in Khammam district seeking anticipatory bail in a sexual assault case.

Mrugender Lal was selected as an IPS officer in 2019 and was subsequently selected as an IAS cadre of Tamil Nadu in 2020. The counsel appearing for the sexual assault victim stated that they have submitted voice recordings of police officials asking the victim to withdraw the complaint. In view of the same, the public prosecutor sought time to seek instructions from the administration’s end. The matter has been adjourned to November 25 for further hearing.
