Siddipet: The Irrigation Department started pumping water into Ranganayaka Sagar from Annapurna Sagar by operating one pump on Sunday morning, to meet the yasangi needs of ayacut.

Following a letter written by the former minister T Harish Rao in this regard, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy directed the irrigation officials to start the pumping of water. The project had one TMCft of water against its full capacity of 3TMCft.

The Irrigation Department will pump in an additional one TMCft of water by operating one pump after another for the next few days. The farmers, who were elated by the government’s decision, of ayacut thanked Harish Rao for his initiative.

The water will be released from canals until the harvesting season commences under the ayacut in the second half of April.
