Hyderabad: State BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday demanded that the State government punish Vanama Raghava, wanted in connection with the death of four members of a family in Kothagudem, in public.

“Instead of directly arresting Raghava and remanding him, the people should punish him stringently. This will also instill confidence among people and also sends a strong message,” he said, interacting with media persons at the State party office here.

He also advised the police not to succumb to pressure from various quarters in taking action against Raghava. “This is not the first time that Raghava harassed women. He also behaved in a similar manner with a police officer and those who meet him seeking help,” he said.

“The lives of four family members could have been saved if the police acted swiftly against Raghava then only,” he said, finding fault with the police for resorting to lathi-charge against the BJP activists for staging a demonstration in front of his house in Kothagudem.

The police should first punish Raghava rather than arresting the BJP leaders, Sanjay added.
