Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar called upon farmers and TRS party ranks to participate in large numbers in farmers’ dharna at all Assembly constituencies in the district on Friday.
He held a meeting with Khammam constituency leaders here on Thursday to discuss arrangements for making the dharna a success to expose the reckless attitude of the Central government towards the purchase of paddy from farmers in Telangana.
According to the Food Security Act, the Centre should buy the paddy grown by the farmers. But acting in contradiction to the Act the Centre proved itself as an anti-farmer regime, Ajay Kumar noted.
The Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao introduced pro-farmer policies like 24 hours free electricity, built projects to increase cultivation area and was giving Rythu Bandhu to farmers. But the Central government was conspiring against the State. The protests would continue till the Central government denounced its unjust stand towards Telangana farmers. BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy were making contradictory statements, he noted.
In a statement, TRS Lok Sabha floor leader, MP, Nama Nageswara Rao also called upon the party ranks to stage large scale dharna all over the district against the BJP government’s anti-farmer stand.
