Khammam: In an act of modesty, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar has cleaned a drain as part of Palle Pragathi programme in Madhira mandal in the district on Saturday.

The Minister along with the ZP Chairman L Kamalraj took part in Palle Pragathi and inspected sanitation situation at Siripuram village in Madhira mandal during which he found the side drains in the village were choked with dirt because of poor maintenance.

Ajay Kumar expressed anger at the gram panchayat secretary for failing to implement Palle Pragathi programme effectively in the village and leaving the side drains in bad condition. He sought to know whether the secretary was not staying at the village.

The Minister then grabbed a garden spade and cleaned the drain. He warned that serious action would be taken against village officials if they were found to be neglecting implementation of Palle Pragathi programme.

Later, Ajay Kumar and Kamalraj inaugurated a Rythu Vedika at the village. Speaking on the occasion the minister advised the officials to regularly organise meetings involving agriculture officials to educate farmers about modern farming techniques.

At a programme at Madhira, the Minister offered floral tributes to statue of Dr BR Ambedkar and addressed a gathering. He said that the State government was aiming to spend around Rs 45, 000 crore in the next five years on ‘CM Dalit Empowerment Scheme’.

The ZP Chairman said since the formation of Telangana State, several welfare programmes for  different sections have been implemented. Now with an objective of achieving all round progress of Dalits, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao introduced the Dalit Empowerment Scheme, he added.

Attending Pattana Pragathi in Khammam earlier on the day, Ajay Kumar along with SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, Mayor P Neeraja, District Collector RV Karnan distributed saplings to residents in different localities.
