Hyderabad: World champion PV Sindhu quelled Akane Yamaguchi’s challenge 21-13, 22-20 in 56-minute intriguing battle to cruise into the women’s singles semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

The Japanese put the Indian a spot of trouble as she was 20-18 but Sindhu saved the game points with two deadly smashes before finishing off the match with a down-the-line smash.
