Hyderabad: World champion PV Sindhu quelled Akane Yamaguchi’s challenge 21-13, 22-20 in 56-minute intriguing battle to cruise into the women’s singles semifinals of the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

In a match of long rallies, Sindhu had to dig deep before putting out the challenge of Yamaguchi


The `Smiling Assassin, yet again, was in awesome form. But Yamaguchi fought brilliantly particularly in the second game when she trailed by six points. The Japanese put the Indian a spot of trouble as she was 20-18 but Sindhu saved the game points with two deadly smashes before finishing off the match with a down-the-line smash.
