Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at Telangana State Wakf Board office at Nampally when All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen workers staged a protest demanding action against persons who demolished a Qutb Shahi-era mosque at Shamirpet.
Some persons had allegedly demolished a centuries-old mosque reportedly located on Wakf land at Keshapur in Shamirpet on Monday. A case was booked at the Shamirpet police station.
On Tuesday, on coming to know about the incident, scores of AIMIM party workers descended at the Haj House building and staged a protest. The police who were already deployed at the office forcefully lifted the protestors and shifted them to Abid Road police station.
Meanwhile, a team of TS Wakf Board officials visited the spot where the mosque was located on Tuesday and interacted with the local police officials and revenue officials.
TS Wakf Board chairman Mohd Saleem said that the land belongs to the Wakf board and some ‘unauthorized persons’ sold it to private people.
