Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Special Operations Team nabbed three youngsters who allegedly attempted to extort money by threatening and blackmailing realtors and politicians of Yadadri-Bhongir district, here on Saturday. Three knives, a scooter and mobile phones were seized from them.
Among the arrested persons were two brothers – S Kranthi Kumar (23), owner of an advertising agency, and S Simhadri (19), a degree student, both residents of Motakondur mandal, apart from a student from Alair, S Jeshwanth (20).
According to the police, Simhadri intended to develop a mobile application for online delivery of water but could not take up the project given financial constraints. He along with his brother Kranthi sought help from some local politicians but was refused help.
The brothers assisted by Jeshwanth then decided to extort money by posing as gangsters from two persons who are into real estate business. They stole a mobile phone from a fruit vendor in Tarnaka and acquired three big size knives and a dagger.
Accordingly, Simhadri called a realtor from the stolen mobile phone introducing himself as ‘Gangster Khaleel’ and demanded Rs 5 crore. The trio then created a WhatsApp account and with a woman’s photograph as display picture and sent messages to another realtor. They engaged the victim with chats posing as a woman and after capturing some screen shots, demanded Rs 10 lakh.
Based on complaints, two separate cases were booked at Yadadri and Alair police stations and subsequently the trio was traced and nabbed.
