Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police asked people heading for Sankranthi vacation not to share information about their holiday activities on social media.
Rachakonda CP Mahesh M Bhagwat said it had come to the notice of the police that offenders were keeping a watch on social media and planning heists.
“In certain instances, we noticed that the burglars were monitoring social media accounts of people and planning burglaries. It is advisable that people do not share about their plans or movements on social media platforms,” he said.
The advice was issued by the police as thousands of families from the city head to their native places to celebrate Sankranthi this week. “People should take all precautions in regard to their valuables before heading for the vacation. Keep valuables in banks or with relatives safely,” he said.
The CP also asked the people to inform colony security guards, building watchman and also the local police station before heading for vacation so that extra vigil is maintained on the premises. “It is advisable the people monitor the activity near their house with the help of closed-circuit cameras linked to their mobile phones,” the CP said.
