Hyderabad: The Rachakonda police will be deploying around 8,000 personnel for smooth conduct of GHMC elections in 30 wards falling under it’s 13 police stations. Around 14.20 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in 1,640 polling stations covering 573 polling locations across the Commissionerate on December 1.

The police are making all efforts to ensure free and fair polling across the jurisdiction, said Rachakonda Police Commissioner, Mahesh Bhagwat here on Friday.

“We have conducted meetings with all political parties and sensitised them about the Model Code of Conduct. Of the 1,640 polling stations, 101 are hyper sensitive and 498 are sensitive. Our force has been trained and sensitised in all activities of election and will act as process managers for the polling process,” he said.

The Commissioner said regular vehicle checking was organised at all important places to check flow of money and liquor and flag march and area domination exercises were taken up. “Also 101 route mobiles are deployed to cover the polling locations. Seven flying squad teams and six static surveillance teams are working on the ground 24/7 in three shifts and organizing random and surprise checks to ensure model code,” Bhagwat said.

So far, 543 licensed arms were deposited with the police and trouble mongers, rowdy sheeters were bound over apart from executing 268 non-bailable warrants.

“Social Media is being monitored closely by three teams round the clock. Stringent action will be taken up against mischief mongers and rumour mongers who use social media to create unrest and panic,” the Commissioner said.

Police urge retired military personnel to volunteer

The Rachakonda police invited the Army, Paramilitary, police and other personnel those who have retired from security services and intent to volunteer for forthcoming GHMC polls.

“Apart from the 8,000 police personnel deployed for the bandobast duties on the polling day, we request those who retired from the services to come forward for volunteering. We have opened special counters for them for applying,” said Rachakonda Police Commissioner, Mahesh Bhagwat.

Accommodation, food and allowances would be paid to them, officials said.

Those who are willing to work as volunteer for the GHMC elections can contact the Election Cell Rachakonda on 8333993352 or Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda at Neredmet.
