Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Cybercrime police arrested a man from Tamil Nadu on charges of harassing a woman through phone calls and WhatsApp messages on Wednesday.
The arrested person was C Kabilan (52), a private employee from Vellore. According to the police, the victim and the suspect earlier lived in the same neighbourhood and were friends since a long time. Kabilan had captured her pictures and videos in his mobile phone. Recently, after differences cropped up between them, the victim started avoiding Kabilan, following which he began to harass her.
“He started blackmailing her by sending her private pictures and videos on WhatsApp and demanded Rs 5 lakh. He also threatened to make them public if she did not pay,” police said, adding that based on a complaint, the Cybercrime police booked a case and tracked down Kabilan.
He was arrested and brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant. He was produced before court here.
