Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police arrested 10 persons from Jharkhand who were involved in various cybercrimes.

The arrested were Zamil Ansari (26), Burhan Ansari (32) Akhlak Hussain (27) Sarfaraz Ansari (23), Siraj Ansari (41) Sushil (30) Suni Kumar (24) Shekar Kumar Das (19) Vinod Das (19) and Ramcharan Das (20).

According to the police, the gang created fake websites of various companies like Google Pay, PhonePe and various e-commerce shopping sites, banks, online services etc, with the help of experts and posted their phone numbers as the customer care number of the company. If any person contacted those phone numbers to get issues resolved, the suspects impersonated executives of the company.

“They pretended to help them in getting their money refunded and siphoned off their money. Another modus operandi to dupe the public was on the pretext of cashback offers,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.

In most of the cases, the gang conned the victims into installing mobile phone-based applications like ‘Team viewer’- ‘Quick Support’ /’ Any Desk’ in their mobile phones. “After gaining access to the mobile phone of the victim they transferred huge amount into their own bank accounts,” he said.

They collected mobile phone numbers of the public from third parties and sent messages saying their mobile SIM numbers, Paytm and bank accounts KYC were being suspended and asked them to contact on a WhatsApp number for updating KYC details.

“They also indulged in nude chatting and later threatened victims to make public their conversations and extort money,” Bhagwat said.
