Rachakonda Police solved the Rs 1.07 crore burglary at Brilliant Engineering College by arresting two interstate burglars and a juvenile. The gang used Google Maps to target isolated institutions and fled with the fee collection after breaking into the office.
Hyderabad: The sensational Rs 1.07 crore burglary at Brilliant Engineering College in Abdullapurmet was solved by the Rachakonda Police and two interstate burglars were arrested along with a juvenile involved in executing the heist.
The arrests were made on Tuesday morning during a vehicle check at Kothaguda ‘X’ road, leading to the recovery of Rs 37.05 lakh.
The arrested persons are Raj Manohar Pawar (22), a student from Gujarat, Rithik Mohite (24), a Law student from Madhya Pradesh and a 16-year-old juvenile offender. Three others identified as Dinesh Mohite, Arun Mohite alias Kalu and Vilas Chohan are absconding.
On October 10, the gang broke into the administrative office of Brilliant Group of Institutions and using long screwdrivers, opened the almirah and fled with Rs 1.07 crore in cash, which was the fee collection from the students.
According to police, the group used Google Maps to identify isolated educational institutions near national highways. They first looked at one college in Tattiannaram but dropped the plan due to security presence.
“They then selected Brilliant Engineering College due to its remote location. The gang hid in nearby bushes until midnight before breaking in. After collecting the cash, they divided the amount on the spot, each getting around Rs 17.8 lakh, including the juvenile,” said G Sudheer Babu, Police Commissioner, Rachakonda.
Following the complaint, Rachakonda Police formed special teams and all special wings and officers tracked leads across Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, eventually identifying the suspects. Surveillance was kept on them and they were nabbed.
