Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police on Tuesday launched ‘Swasthya Seva’, an initiative to provide food to orphanages, old age homes and drivers on the highways with the help of non-government organisations.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat, launching the initiative at the Abhi Sai Datta Child Home in Uppal said it was aimed at providing food to children, elders and mentally challenged persons in orphanages, old age homes and special homes. Food would also be provided to long-distance heavy vehicle drivers on the highways.

“The Rachakonda Police has adopted 18 orphanages and old age homes and will be distributing one meal to them for two months. The programme is aimed at not only looking after their physical health through providing good lunch but also by enabling philanthropists to help them,” Bhagwat said, adding that last year, the Rachakonda Police had adopted 77 homes of different kinds with 2,876 residents being served food and dry ration throughout the lockdown with the help of several NGOs.

Bhagwat also thanked the Haryana Nagrik Sangh who along with Agarwal Samaj, HNS Chikitsalay came forward to partner with the police for the initiative. The Commissioner served lunch to nearly 30 kids of the orphanage and interacted with the children.
