Hyderabad: As part of the Haritha Haram initiative, 40,000 saplings were planted in a single day at the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate land in Medipally on Thursday. The massive plantation drive was taken up in Miyawaki or Yadadri pattern.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali said that a plantation target of 230 crore saplings was given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao as part of Haritha Haram programme and around 90 per cent of the target has been achieved.
Minister for Labour Ch Mallareddy applauded the Rachakonda Police for their friendly policing approach and lauded them for being in the forefront in participating in plantation programmes. Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy said besides maintaining the law and order in the State, the police were also involving in many programmes with the help of citizens and government as part of community policing.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said a total of one lakh saplings will be planted in the Commissionerate land in future. “While 40,000 saplings have been planted during the first phase, the rest would be planted in the second phase. Around 60 verities of native species saplings will be planted,” he added.
