Hyderabad: Olympian VR Raghunath netted three goals as Indian Oil defeated hosts South Central Railway 6-4 in Pool A match to book a semifinals berth in the Gooncha 57th Nehru Senior Hockey tournament, at the SCR Sports Complex, on Sunday.
The victory took Indian Oil to the semifinals. Indian Oil managed to convert four of the penalty corners which proved decisive in the end. Roshan Minz gave Indian Oil the lead in the second minute through a field goal, but SCR’s Lovepreet Singh opened the scoring for the hosts in the 12 minute with a field goal. In the 19th minute Raghunath converted a penalty corner and put Indian Oil ahead, but SCR captain G Poonacha brought his side back with a field goal in the 23rd minute.
Belsajar Horo, through a field goal, gave the lead to SCR, in the 29th minute before Raghunaath converted his second penalty to draw parity in the 30th minute. A penalty corner each was converted by Affan Yusuf in the 44th minute and Raghunaath in the 54th min for Indian Oil. MG Poonacha reduced the margin through a field goal in the 51st minute, but Talwinder Singh scored a field goal in the dying moments to extend the victory margin.
In another match, Imran scored two goals as CAG XI downed Indian Navy 4-2.
