Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao came down heavily on Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi for maintaining a stoic silence over Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s ‘Bulldozer Raj’ that targeted the homes of the poor in Telangana. Gandhi should spell out his stance on the BJP-style governance by the Congress government in the State, he said.
Addressing residents of Reliance Jubilee Gated Community at Shaikpet in Jubilee Hills constituency on Sunday, Rama Rao said Rahul Gandhi owed an explanation to people of Telangana over the Congress-BJP nexus in Telangana. Gandhi lectured about bulldozer politics elsewhere, but turned a blind eye to Revanth Reddy’s bulldozers, he said.
“How can he stay silent when his own Chief Minister is implementing BJP-style bulldozer governance? How can he tolerate a Congress government that has completely ignored the minorities and misled every section of society?” he asked.
Stating that the Revanth Reddy government had failed on every front, the BRS working president ridiculed Gandhi for his double standards on secularism and social justice. Under the Congress rule, minorities welfare has been neglected, he said, calling it shameful that despite six MLC vacancies, the Congress government did not nominate a single minority candidate.
“Rahul Gandhi’s silence is complicity,” he charged, pointing out that despite the Congress opposing the Waqf Amendment nationally, the Revanth Reddy government had implemented it in Telangana even before any BJP-ruled State.
Rama Rao also called out the Congress and the BJP collusion in the State, terming them as two sides of the same coin. “Revanth Reddy’s government is awarding contracts to BJP-linked firms and the BJP MPs are cooperating with the Congress on various issues. Together, they are targeting regional forces like BRS as the other party’s B-team, to hide their own collusion,” he asserted.
Contrasting BRS’s decade-long progress with two years of the Congress’s deceit, he urged voters to make an informed choice. “In ten years, we delivered development, peace and welfare. In just two years, Congress has managed to break promises, destroy livelihoods and deceive every community. They built their power on lies and propaganda, not performance,” he said.
The former Minister recalled transformation of Hyderabad under the BRS government which ended power shortages, developed Hyderabad into a cosmopolitan hub which was peaceful, progressive and inclusive. However, the growth momentum collapsed under the Congress rule, Rama Rao said, adding that while former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao strove for empowerment of the minorities, the Congress indulged in tokenism.
The previous BRS government established 204 minority residential schools besides introducing the Rs 20 lakh overseas scholarship scheme, enabling thousands of students from these institutions to become doctors, engineers and other professionals, he added.
