Karimnagar: A waterfall in Raikal village has been attracting hordes of visitors for the last few days in Saidapur mandal. The picturesque waterfall is located amid a forest, about 42 kilometres away from the district headwaters in Saidapur mandal. The water at the scenic spot cascades down from about 200 metre-high hillocks named Jendagutta. There are another three small waterfalls above Jendagutta.
About 30 series of hillocks of Kotagiriguttalu are the main water source for waterfalls. When the monsoon begins, the waterfall comes alive and will continue for a period of three months. Though there is no proper road facility for the three kilometers distance from Raikal village to the waterfall, more than 500 people visit the spot every day in the rainy season. There were instances of traffic jams for six kilometer distance.
Besides local people, tourists from Karimnagar, Huzurabad, Warangal and Siddipet visit the spot and enjoy the picturesque waterfalls. Though the visitors were not allowed to visit waterfalls last year due to the Covid outbreak, the restrictions were lifted this time around. It may be recalled that in order to promote waterfalls, the then Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed and Commissioner of Police, VB Kamalasan Reddy trekked to waterfalls in October 2017.
On the occasion, the Collector had assured to take steps to develop the place by laying a road from Raikal village to the waterfalls, steps to trek hillocks and ensuring other amenities with the help of forest and tourism departments. Speaking to Telangana Today, district Tourism Officer, Venkateshwar Rao said they were planning to develop waterfalls as a tourism spot. Besides laying roads from village to spot and other facilities would also be arranged to attract tourists.
