Hyderabad: Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) scored a 4-1 win over All India Police Sports Control Board to emerge champions of the 6th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2026 at the Gachibowli Hockey Complex here on Monday.
Railway, who had remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, once again displayed their class in the final. They showed no mercy to the Police team, who had also enjoyed a good run in the championship. Police, who had defeated last year’s runners-up Comptroller & Auditor General of India (CAG) in the semifinal, were unable to reproduce the same quality of play.
Though Police managed to run the Railway team ragged in the first half of the final, they faded after the break as Railway steamrolled to the title.
The first half was a tough contest, with Police matching the Railway team and keeping them on a tight leash. It took Railway almost 20 minutes to find the opening goal. Atul Deep struck in the 20th minute to put his side 1-0 up as Railway went into the break with the lead.
Upon resumption, Police began making their moves and one such raid resulted in a goal. Shubham equalised for the Police team in the 36th minute but, thereafter, they could do little to stop Railway from running away with the championship title.
Railway responded immediately as Rohit Rohit struck in the 36th minute to restore the lead. Thereafter, it was Amandeep Lakra who ensured the game remained in Railway’s control. He scored a brace within a minute to give Railway a 4-1 lead. Amandeep scored both goals off penalty corners in the 41st and 42nd minutes.
Police tried their best to come back into the game in the final quarter but were unable to breach the Railway defence. Railway’s Atul Deep had earned a green card in the 14th minute, while Rohit Rohit was shown a yellow card in the 44th minute. Police’s Chandan Yadav also received a yellow card in the 44th minute.
PSPB down CAG 1-0 to finish third
In the third-place contest earlier in the day, last year’s champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) defeated CAG 1-0.
In a closely fought game with little to separate the teams, a 53rd-minute strike from Affan Yousuf clinched the issue for PSPB.
With the action getting intense and tempers running high, CAG’s Sathwik HR was shown a green card in the 46th minute.
The results:
Final: Railway Sports Promotion Board 4 (Atul Deep 20th; Rohit Rohit 36th; Amandeep Lakra 41st, 42nd) beat All India Police Sports Control Board 1 (Shubham 17th).
3rd place: Petroleum Sports Promotion Board 1 (Affan Yousuf 53rd) beat Comptroller & Auditor General of India 0.
