Nalgonda: Moderate rain was reported in several mandals of erstwhile Nalgonda district on Monday. Munugodu, Madgulapally, Shaligowraram, Chinthapally, Nampally, Tirumalgiri (Sagar), Kethepally, Kattangur, Tripuraram, Nidmanoor, Thipparthi, Chinthapally and Nalgonda mandals have witnessed moderate rain. As the showers continued throughout the day, public life was impacted in the district.
Shaligowraram reservoir was also overflowing after receiving flood water from Monday early hours.
Six crest gates of Musi project were lifted up to 3.5 feet height and 10,984 cusecs of water was released downstream. In flow to the project was recorded as 4,572 cusecs. Water level in the project reached 641.4 feet as against full project level of 645 feet. In view of the rains, Mahatma Gandhi University also postponed examinations of degree, MBA and MCA, which were scheduled on September 29 and 29.
Out of 17 mandals in Yadadri-Bhongir district, 16 mandals witnessed moderate rain on the day. Average 23 mm of rainfall was recorded in the district by 5 pm.
The district collector Pamela Satpathy has conducted teleconference with mandal level officials and instructed them to be alert in view of the weather forecast of heavy rain. Officials should monitor the situation at low lying areas, bridges, culverts and irrigation tanks round the clock. If required, staff should be deployed at the culverts and bridges to alert the people. She also instructed the officials not to go out from mandal headquarters in view of the situation.
