Hyderabad: A buzz spread across social media and some vernacular news websites on Thursday claiming that Governor Jishnu Dev Varma had approved the bills providing 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes in local body elections.

However, sources in Raj Bhavan dismissed the reports as incorrect. They clarified that the Governor has not yet given assent to the bills increasing BC reservations in the State.

The government had introduced two bills amending the Panchayat Raj Act, 2018 and the Municipalities Act in the Assembly on August 31, and in the Legislative Council on September 1.

Both Houses passed the bills, which were then sent to Raj Bhavan on September 2 for the Governor’s approval.
