Hyderabad: Contrary to his belligerent stand towards the State government, BJP MLA T Raja Singh on Saturday appreciated the TRS government for implementing Dalit Bandhu, which he said was a good scheme to uplift Dalits on all fronts. Speaking at an awareness programme with the beneficiaries of Dalit Bandhu scheme, Singh advised the beneficiaries to utilize the scheme effectively by starting a business like opening a tent house or electrical shop.

This would help them to generate a source of income, he said, adding that there were many people who could not start a business due to non-availability of funds. The Dalit Bandhu scheme would help the beneficiaries to start business and settle in their life. “We request the beneficiaries to plan a business appropriately and use Rs.10 lakh given under the scheme,” he said, asking the beneficiaries not to use the money to perform the marriage of their children.

The BJP legislator said the beneficiaries should first focus on settling financially with the amount given under the scheme and they can later perform their children’s marriage. In Dhoolpet in Goshamahal Assembly constituency, some people spend Rs.10 lakh for celebrating a birthday function and Rs.50 lakh to Rs.1 crore for performing the marriage of their children, he recalled.

Singh also asked the beneficiaries to know more information about the scheme. “Once a particular family is benefited with the scheme then they can create awareness among other people to avail the scheme and reap the benefit,” he said. Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MLAs Danam Nagender and Muta Gopal and others also spoke.
